Coach Code of Conduct

Effective October 10, 2026.

Why this exists

Most players on Advantage are teenagers. Coaches who use the app agree to this code when they create their account. It's part of our Terms of Use and sits alongside your club's or governing body's own safeguarding rules. Where those rules are stricter, follow them.

Before you coach on Advantage

  • You're at least 18 and have your club's, school's or team's permission to coach the players you add.
  • You've completed any background check and safeguarding training (such as U.S. Center for SafeSport training) that your club, school, league or governing body requires, and you keep it current.
  • You aren't barred or suspended from coaching or from working with minors.

Messages with players

  • Keep every message professional and about soccer: training, lessons, sessions and the game.
  • Never send anything sexual, romantic, hurtful, threatening or embarrassing, and never ask a player for photos or videos of themselves.
  • Keep conversations with players in the app. Don't ask for a player's phone number, social media or other personal contact details, or move a conversation elsewhere, without their parent's or guardian's knowledge.
  • With a player under 18, follow your club's or governing body's rules on including a parent or another adult. When you contact a player outside the app, copy a parent or guardian.
  • Don't message players late at night unless it's urgent and about a team activity.
  • Don't share a player's information, results or messages with anyone who isn't involved in coaching them.

Sessions

  • Run video or in-person sessions where a parent, guardian or another adult can see or hear what's happening, and let the parent know when they're scheduled.
  • With a player under 18, let a parent or guardian join any video session and watch any in-person session.
  • Hold in-person sessions only at the place listed when the session was booked, somewhere a parent can watch, and never in a private home.
  • Keep private sessions separate from team selection: booking one, or not, has no bearing on a player's place or playing time.
  • Don't give players gifts or money, or arrange to meet a player on their own, outside your club's rules.
  • If you sell private sessions in the app, also follow the session rules in section 8 of the Terms of Use.

Speaking up

  • If you suspect a player is being abused or neglected, report it to the authorities as the law requires, and to the U.S. Center for SafeSport where it applies. You can also tell us at help@advantagesports.io.
  • If a player tells you they're thinking about hurting themselves, make sure a parent or another responsible adult knows. In the US, they can call or text 988 at any time, or call 911 in an emergency.

If the code is broken

We may remove messages, suspend or close your account, and tell the player's parent or guardian, your club, the U.S. Center for SafeSport or law enforcement. Anyone can report a concern about a coach to help@advantagesports.io.
